Monocrystalline silicon billet refers to the silicon crystal raw material with a specific shape and size formed by arranging silicon atoms in a regular diamond lattice through a specific process. It has a metallic luster, is mostly dark gray in color, and is hard and brittle in texture. It has a relatively high hardness but poor toughness and is prone to cracking when subjected to external force impact. It is a basic material for manufacturing semiconductor devices, solar cells, etc. Before use, purity testing and crystal defect detection will be carried out: the concentration of impurities in the monocrystalline silicon billet is measured to ensure its purity meets the requirements, or the crystal defects in the monocrystalline silicon billet are observed and analyzed to assess their impact on subsequent processing and device performance. Now, metallographic sample preparation is carried out for the monocrystalline silicon billet:
First, use the TableCUT200 cutting machine in conjunction with resin diamond cutting discs to cut off the cracked and irregular edges and corners.
Then, manually roll the monocrystalline silicon billet on the Alpha208 grinding and polishing machine. The specific steps are as follows:
1. Resin diamond grinding discs P120/P400/P1500 are used for surface grinding.
2. Polish with a red velvet polishing cloth and a 3-micron diamond polishing suspension
The polished monocrystalline silicon billet has six sides as bright as a mirror and distinct edges, laying a good foundation for subsequent precise inspection.
