Aluminum alloy hard anodizing layer microstructure preparation scheme

Aluminum alloy is highly favored due to its light weight and corrosion resistance. The application of hard anodizing technology further enhances the hardness and wear resistance of aluminum alloy, and it is widely used in high-end fields such as aerospace and automotive manufacturing. However, to accurately assess the quality and performance of the hard anodizing film, microstructure preparation is an indispensable key step.

Preparation difficulties: The hard anodizing film of aluminum alloy has different material characteristics from the substrate. The oxide film is hard and brittle, while the aluminum alloy substrate is relatively soft. This "combination of hardness and softness" poses significant challenges for microstructure preparation. During the preparation process, attention should be paid to cracking, peeling of the oxide film, or deformation and blurring of the interface between the substrate and the oxide film, which can prevent accurate observation and analysis of the microstructure and affect the judgment of product quality.

The following are the sample preparation method steps for your reference.

1. Fine grinding with P400 microstructure sandpaper until the sample is flat

2. POS + fine grinding with 9μm PD-WT diamond polishing liquid

3. SC + 3μm anhydrous diamond polishing liquid polishing

4. ET + AO-WF anhydrous aluminum oxide polishing liquid polishing
